Eradication of poverty, eradication of hunger, and achieving gender equality are key priorities among the ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for urban Indians, according to a survey.
Ground Report | New Delhi: Poverty hunger urban Indians; The World Economic Forum-market research company Ipsos has conducted this survey among urban Indians. In which these facts have come to the fore. An Ipsos statement said the survey also found that good health and well-being for urban Indians is one of the top priorities. Apart from this, the top three SDG priorities of global citizens for 2021 are hunger eradication, poverty eradication, better health and well-being.
According to Amit Adarkar, CEO, Ipsos India, “The pandemic and the lockdown have affected livelihoods in a big way and the top three goals only help ensure that people are fed and financially supported and that treatment and vaccination are provided. To move the healthcare system forward.” He said that the government has also focused on these three areas till the virus is controlled.

The United Nations has set a total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are to be achieved by 2030. India along with other countries has also resolved to achieve these SDGs in 2015. The second goal under the Sustainable Development Goals is to end hunger and malnutrition in all countries in the next 10 years.
Adarkar says, “However, for a country like India, which has a majority in poverty, these are long-term goals. Gender equality has also been identified as a key area. There is more pressure on women after the pandemic. Hence, gender equality has become more prominent in India.”

Last year, India was ranked 115th out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations’ 193 member states as the 2030 Agenda in 2015. In the latest report, it has come down two places. At the same time, according to the International Labor Organization, India’s unemployment rate increased to 7.11 percent during 2020. This is the highest level in the last three decades.
