Ground Report | New Delhi: Ram Rahim got life imprisonment; Sirsa Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been given life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 31 lakh in the Ranjit Singh murder case. Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Dera lover Ranjit Singh.

Ram Rahim got life imprisonment

A special CBI court has sentenced him to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 31 lakh. A special CBI court in Panchkula had on October 12 convicted Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the case. However, Ram Rahim is already serving his sentence in the rape and murder case of a journalist.

Ranjit Singh was a member of the 10-member committee of Dera Sacha Sauda. He was assassinated in the year 2002, for which the Dera chief was considered an accused.

The court of Special CBI Judge Dr. Sushil Kumar Garg had on October 8 convicted Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh, and Sabdil Singh under sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

Who is Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh?

Gurmeet Ram Rahim was born on 15 August 1967 in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, Ram Rahim became the head of Dera Sacha Sauda in 1990. The Dera was founded in 1948 by Shah Mastana. Today he has more than 50 ashrams and lakhs of followers all over the country.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s son is married to Congress member Harminder Singh Jassi’s daughter. However, in the last elections of Haryana, he supported the Bharatiya Janata Party.
