Madhya Pradesh: 23 cases of ' love jihad ' in 23 days

23 cases have been registered in Madhya Pradesh in 23 days since the controversial Love Jihad Bill was passed.

The Religious Freedom Ordinance 2020 passed in Madhya Pradesh is commonly called the Love Jihad Act. This law came into force on 9 January in the state.

Bhopal, with seven cases, tops the list, followed by five in Indore Range, four each in Jabalpur and Rewa and three in Gwalior. “We maintain that this is a serious issue and such forces are active across the country. An effort has been taken in Madhya Pradesh to stop them,” Mishra said.

The first case under the new law was registered on January 17 in Palsud police station of Barwani district. A married man, Sohail Mansiri alias Sunny, was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a girl of another community for four years by hiding his original name.

According to Home Minister Narottam Mishra, 23 cases have been registered so far. That is, on an average, one case is registered every day.

Maximum seven cases have been registered in Bhopal while 5 cases have been registered in Indore.

Most cases have been filed by women who allege that relationships were formed by cheating them.

These cases have been registered under the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Ordinance 2020,” Mishra told reporters here on Thursday.

This ordinance was implemented in the state in the month of January. “He said that maximum seven cases were registered in Bhopal division, followed by five in Indore, four each in Jabalpur and Rewa and three in Gwalior division.

 It is to be known that in the month of January, the Madhya Pradesh government had announced to implement the Religious Freedom Ordinance 2020 to stop conversion.

This includes intimidation, coercion, A provision of strict punishment has been made for conversion for marriage by lying and cheating. In some cases a provision of 10 years jail sentence has also been made under this law.
