Human Rights Day is celebrated worldwide on 10 December every year. The United Nations declared Human Rights Day on 10 December in 1950 with the aim of making people around the world aware of the importance of human rights and to be aware of its observance.

 In 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is available in more than 500 languages. It is also the most translated document in the world.

The theme of this year’s Human Rights Day is- Better again- Stand up for human rights. It is related to the covid 19 epidemic. In a video message on Human Rights Day, 2020, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres said that efforts to combat the covid epidemic, in gender equality, public participation, climate justice and sustainable development reflect the need to give central importance to human rights.

What are human rights

Human rights means fundamental rights and freedoms to which all human beings are entitled. Human rights are the basic rights of human beings, from which they cannot be denied on the basis of any other factor like race, caste, nationality, religion, sex etc. Every human has the right to freedom, equality and respect.  

Human rights states that no one should be kept in slavery or slavery. No one should be tortured physically. Do not be ruthless, inhuman or degrading to anyone. Everyone has the right to be accepted as a person everywhere in the eyes of the law.

Importance of Human Rights

All people in this world are equal in terms of rights. There should be no discrimination between people in the country on the basis of color, gender, language, religion, political or other views, nationality or social origin, property, birth etc. Therefore human rights were created. No person can slavery on anyone in any condition.
