In protest of agricultural laws, groups of farmers got toll plaza duty free at 165 places across the country on Saturday. It also includes large highways of the country, where the vehicles passed without paying toll.
The farmers staged a protest at the toll plaza at different places, broke the barrier and made them free throughout the day.
After rejecting the government’s proposal for amendments, the farmers had warned to make the toll plaza free, intensifying the protest.
At the same time, on Saturday evening, a small group of farmers from Rajasthan started to jam the Delhi-Jaipur highway in Rewari, Haryana and thousands of people have reached the Rajasthan border for march in Delhi on Sunday morning.
From today the farmers’ organizations are going to jam the Delhi-Jaipur highway.
This is the 17th day of the protests of the farmers running on the borders of Delhi. Thousands of farmers are present on the borders of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh under the banner of United Kisan Morcha.
The farmers had warned of further agitation if there was no consensus between the government and farmer organizations.
On Tuesday, a proposal was made by the government with amendments in the agricultural laws, but it was rejected by the farmer organizations.
Kanwalpreet Singh Pannu, chairman of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, said in a press conference on the Singhu border, “If the government calls us, we will go for talks but the center of the conversation should be the three agricultural laws. Till these three laws are not repealed, we will not discuss other issues.
He also told that if his demands are not met, the leaders of farmer unions will go on a day hunger strike on Monday.
According to the All India Kisan Sabha, toll plazas were free at 165 out of 450 toll booths in the states.
All the toll plazas in Punjab have been made free after the passage of the three agricultural laws in October.
In Haryana, farmers staged a toll plaza at 20 places and raised slogans opposing BJP. He also staged a protest at Reliance Group’s petrol pumps and malls.
Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ticket) President Ratan Mann told The Hindu newspaper, “Farmers staged almost all toll plazas in Haryana. Groups of farmers started gathering on the Ambala-Hisar highway since morning. Apart from this, we staged a sit-in at all toll plazas on the roads leading to Delhi, Rajgarh, Sirsa and Chandigarh in Hisar district.
