Ground Report | New Delhi: Dalit man-made to spend; A Dalit man was allegedly forced to host a feast after spending Rs 11,000 on entering a Lakshmi Devi temple at a village in Karatagi, Karnataka. The incident happened around 11 days ago and came to the fore when a two-year-old child entered the Hanuman temple in Miyapur village of Koppal district as a penalty of Rs 25,000 from a Dalit family for “purification” of the temple.

Dalit man entering temple
Superintendent of Police T Sridhar said, “Yes, it is true that a person was forced to offer a feast of Rs 11,000 on entering the temple. Our officers are probing the matter. According to Sridhar, the matter came to the fore on Friday. The temple management, led by the priest, forced the man to host a feast.
Sridhar told that a few months back there was an incident of theft in the village and after that, it was decided that no one except the priest would enter the temple. The Dalit man entered the temple as he had resolved to perform some rituals.

Ignoring the collective decision taken by the village elders, he went to the temple on 14 September. Other police sources said that eight people have been detained in the case.
Similar incident in Koppal
A similar incident had come to the fore a few days ago when Chandrashekhar, who belongs to the Chennadasar community in Miyapur village of Koppal district in Karnataka.
The incident is reminiscent of the September 4 incident when a Dalit family of the Chenna Dasar group was harassed after their two-year-old son entered a temple in Miyapur village under the Kushatgi police station area and was fined Rs 25,000. was requested to give. in Koppal.
Five people were arrested in connection with the incident and several other awareness conferences against the evil of caste-based discrimination were also organized.
