Incessant rain in Assam for the last ten days has caused floods in 25 out of 35 districts. 2.5 lakh people from 700 villages are affected by this. So far 7 people have lost their lives.
In this flood, the crops of 16645.61 hectares of land have been submerged in water, due to which everything has been ruined for the farmers.
The army and NDRF are engaged to save and help the people.
Ditokcherra Train stuck in a landslide
Silchar Guwahati Express train 15616 also arrived in this severe flood. On May 16, a train going from Guwahati to Silchar got stuck at Ditokcherra as the railway track in the North Cachar Hill area was blocked due to a landslide. Debris was flowing over the train tracks.
Due to the train getting stuck, about 1600 passengers aboard were also stranded there. A rescue train was sent to save them in which 1400 passengers were evacuated. The Air Force planned to airlift the remaining 200 people by running a rescue operation. Airforce successfully airlifted all the passengers from Ditokcherra railway station to safe places.
The IAF stated it has airlifted people stuck in a train at Ditokcherra railway station in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. In the same area, three people including one woman were killed when a part of the road in the Haflong area washed away. The state is lashed by rains for the past 10 days, in which over 25,000 people have been affected across six districts in the first wave of floods this year.
Rail connectivity to the entire Barak Valley like Tripura, Mizoram, and Manipur has been cut off. Landslides are being reported from many places.
Due to this flood, 6 districts of Assam, Cachar, Dhemaji, Hojai, Karbi Anglong West, Nagaon, and Kamrup (Metro) are affected.
