Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the PM Mitra Park in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday, September 17. State Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will also attend.

According to an official press release, the park will create employment for around 50,000 people directly and 1.5 lakh indirectly. It is expected to attract investments of ₹27,000 crore and boost Madhya Pradesh’s textile exports. Local cotton farmers are expected to benefit from increased demand.

What is PM Mitra Park?

PM Mitra Park is India’s first dedicated textile park. It is located in Bhesola village in Badnawar tehsil, Dhar district, and will cover 2,158 acres. The park will offer modern infrastructure for textile manufacturing and allied industries.

The park will provide roads, electricity, water, waste management, plug-and-play facilities, a common effluent treatment plant, worker housing, training and skill development centers, an incubation center, and warehousing. MPIDC will supply electricity at ₹4.50 per unit and water at ₹25 per kiloliter from the Mahi Dam.

The park is well-connected to industrial hubs and transport networks. It is 110 kilometers from Indore, 85 kilometers from the Pithampur Industrial Cluster, and 50 kilometers from Ratlam. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is 50 kilometers away, and Hazira seaport is 452 kilometers from the site.

Why is it important?

PM Mitra Park could double Madhya Pradesh’s annual textile exports to around ₹14,000 crore. Investors are drawn to the park because of its connectivity, modern infrastructure, and incentives for industrial units.

The project is expected to benefit local communities. Young people and women from Dhar, Jhabua, and Ratlam districts will have new employment opportunities. Tribal communities are also expected to gain from training and jobs.

Madhya Pradesh’s textile sector has grown steadily. In 2003, there were 11 garment units in the state; today there are 53. The government offers financial assistance to apparel units and grants mega status to investments above ₹25 crore in machinery.

Approval Received 2 Years Ago

The PM Mitra Park project was approved by the Government of India in March 2023. A Memorandum of Understanding between the central and state governments was signed in Dhar on May 21, 2023. The signing was attended by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, then-Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of State Darshana Vikram Jardosh, and about 150 investors.

Construction will begin immediately after the groundbreaking. Authorities plan to complete the project in stages and ensure full functionality within a few years. Officials said they will monitor progress to maximize benefits for the local economy.

PM Mitra Park is part of a central government initiative to set up seven mega textile parks in India. Other parks are planned in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh. The government aims to increase textile exports and prepare the industry for global competition.
