Residents of Colorado Springs in El Paso County, United States, faced extreme weather this week, with strong winds, dust storms, and a blizzard warning leading to hazardous travel. On Monday, the region experienced warm temperatures around 70 degrees but was under a red flag warning due to high winds and dry conditions.
Meteorologists warned of gusts reaching 30-50 mph, increasing wildfire risk. The warning was in place until midnight for the Pikes Peak region, though it could have expired as early as 8 p.m.
By Tuesday, the weather shifted dramatically as a winter storm swept across the Front Range. A blizzard warning was extended from Castle Rock to northern Colorado Springs and east to the Kansas state line. Heavy snow and fierce winds created whiteout conditions, prompting authorities to warn residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for northern El Paso County until 3 a.m. Wednesday, with expected snow accumulations of 2-5 inches and wind gusts up to 70 mph. Similar conditions were reported in Limon and Burlington, where 2-4 inches of snow and gusts up to 70 mph made travel dangerous.
The Colorado Springs Police Department went on accident alert due to worsening road conditions. Authorities urged drivers to restrict travel to emergencies only, warning of icy roads, strong winds, and low visibility. As of 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Interstate 25 north of Monument was closed in both directions due to a stalled vehicle.

The storm forced some El Paso County school districts, including District 49 and Ellicott 22, to announce two-hour delays for Wednesday.
In southeastern El Paso County, a snow squall warning was issued until 10 p.m. Snow squalls, short but intense bursts of heavy snow and wind, created travel hazards. Reports indicated dangerous whiteout conditions near Calhan and Truckton.
Conditions should improve by Wednesday afternoon. However, meteorologists predict strong winds and another chance of snow by Friday morning, though the impacts of this next system are expected to be minimal.
