Madhya Pradesh is experiencing rising temperatures again, with day temperatures exceeding 33°C in Ratlam and Mandla. On Saturday, the mercury reached 33°C, indicating a significant increase in daytime heat. Meanwhile, in Indore, the night temperature hit 16°C, marking a noticeable rise. The Meteorological Department expects this pattern to continue for three days, though a decline is anticipated from February 18 to 19.
Day temp crosses 33°C in Madhya Pradesh
Meteorologist Pramod Kumar Raikwar explained that the current rise in temperature is due to the return of active western disturbances in North India, which typically affect the weather, causing temperature fluctuations. Raikwar stated that over the next three days, daytime temperatures are expected to increase by 2-3°C, peaking on 16, 17, and 18 February. However, after this spike, the temperature will fall again, providing some relief from the heat.
On Saturday, many cities in the state recorded significant temperature increases, with several areas witnessing a rise of up to 4°C compared to the previous day. In Bhopal, the maximum temperature reached 31.8°C, while in Indore, it touched 31.6°C. Gwalior recorded 31.6°C, and Ujjain saw 32.5°C. In Dhar, Guna, Khargone, Damoh, Khajuraho, Sagar, and Seoni, temperatures ranged between 32-33°C. Meanwhile, Mandla and Ratlam experienced the highest temperatures, crossing 33°C. Despite the heat, Pachmarhi, the only hill station in the state, recorded the lowest temperature at 5.6°C.
The Meteorological Department forecasts a new western disturbance starting February 17, expected to lower day and night temperatures across the state from February 18-19. However, despite the temperature drop, no significant rainfall is expected, and dry conditions will likely persist.
Warm days, cool nights, fluctuating temperatures
February in Madhya Pradesh has warm days and cooler nights. Historically, the month sees temperature fluctuations and occasional rainfall. From 2015 to 2024, the maximum day temperature exceeded 35°C in Bhopal for four years, and the minimum night temperature fell below 10°C for seven years. However, rainfall in February occurred only three times in the last decade.
The state has seen mixed weather in recent years, with severe cold in November and December 2024. December 2024 had the coldest temperatures in decades in Bhopal, Indore, and Gwalior, breaking long-standing records. January brought relief, with the cold spell easing after 10 to 15 days. Despite drizzle in January, there was no major rainfall, as the western disturbances lacked the intensity for heavy showers or hailstorms.
The upcoming weather in Madhya Pradesh will continue the typical February pattern—hot days and cooler nights. In Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain, daytime temperatures will stay above 30°C, while night temperatures will range between 10-14°C. Gwalior may see temperatures drop to 6°C or lower, while Jabalpur and Ujjain could experience hot days and chilly nights.
The weather will fluctuate in the coming days, but with no significant rainfall expected, Madhya Pradesh residents can anticipate daytime warmth and slight nighttime cool-down.
