The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has announced a new request for proposals aimed at developing 500 MW grid-connected intra-state wind-solar hybrid projects. This initiative is part of MSEDCL’s ongoing efforts to boost renewable energy generation within the state.
The tender also includes an additional greenshoe option of up to 500 MW, indicating the potential for expanded renewable energy capacity.
To participate in the tender process, bidders are required to submit an earnest money deposit of Rs 1.1 million per MW. The guidelines specify that the minimum size for a single wind-solar hybrid project should be 50 MW for inter-state projects and 10 MW for intra-state projects. Interested parties must submit their bids by the deadline on April 4, 2024.
One key requirement of the tender is that at least one of the project’s resources (wind or solar) must have a rated power capacity equivalent to or exceeding 33 per cent of the total contracted capacity. This ensures a balanced and reliable power generation mix.
MSEDCL has also mandated the use of indigenously manufactured solar modules and specific wind-turbine models approved by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. This move aims to promote domestic manufacturing and ensure the use of proven technologies for efficient project execution.
In addition to new projects, MSEDCL has been actively engaging in renewable energy procurement, as seen in their recent tender for a 1,000 MW grid-connected solar project located anywhere in India. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to sustainable energy practices and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Moreover, in October 2023, Shakti Pumps secured a significant order from MSEDCL for 50,000 off-grid solar photovoltaic pumps under the PM-KUSUM programme, phase III, highlighting ongoing efforts to promote solar energy adoption across different sectors.
The stringent eligibility criteria for bidders, including experience in ground-mounted solar projects and financial stability, underscore MSEDCL’s focus on partnering with reliable and capable entities to drive renewable energy expansion in Maharashtra.
