A widely-shared video on social media captures an Aaj Tak journalist interviewing Galgotias University students as they march towards the Congress headquarters in Delhi, protesting issues like inheritance tax and urban naxalism. However, the students seem unable to provide coherent answers to the reporter’s questions, drawing criticism online for their apparent lack of knowledge and preparation.

Galgotia University Student protest

In the Aaj Tak video, the journalist interviews Galgotias University students about their protest march towards the Congress headquarters in Delhi. When asked about their motive, one student from the Greater Noida-based university simply expressed a desire for a developed India.

When asked why he had travelled from Greater Noida to Delhi, one student expressed a desire for a developed India as a youth but failed to elaborate further.

Ashutosh then questioned another student about alleged references to wealth distribution and inheritance tax in the Congress manifesto, but this student also admitted to lacking knowledge about the manifesto.

Despite attempts to interview several students, none could offer satisfactory answers, leaving the purpose of their presence at the protest unclear.

When pressed about the clear objectives of their protest, one student couldn’t provide further details. Another admitted to lacking information about the Congress manifesto. Some even struggled to read the slogans on their placards. The majority of placards used in the protest featured slogans related to inheritance tax, PM Modi’s statement on ‘Mangalsutra’, urban naxalism, Nari Shakti, etc.

Following the video’s viral spread, senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai commented on X, saying, “This superb story by my fine young colleague @JournoAshutosh exposes the WhatsApp university (and state of higher education)! Next time when students want to protest, at least find out what the protest is all about!”
