The Monsoon Session of Parliament begins today, July 21. The session will run till August 21, with 21 sittings over 32 days. Both Houses will be adjourned from August 12 to 17 for Independence Day events.
This is the first session after Operation Sindoor, India’s recent airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address Parliament before the session begins at 11 am.
What the Opposition Wants
The opposition, under the INDIA bloc, plans to raise eight major issues:

They demand that Prime Minister Modi speak on the Pahalgam attack, Trump’s ceasefire remarks, and the EC’s actions in Bihar. The opposition accuses the government of influencing state elections through the voter roll revision.
The government plans to introduce 17 bills during the session. These focus on shipping laws, tax reforms, sports governance, mineral development, and geoheritage preservation.

Government’s Stand
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the government is open to discussing Operation Sindoor “within rules and conventions.”
He urged parties to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament and confirmed that all points raised would be discussed in the Business Advisory Committees of both Houses.
Rijiju also responded to the opposition’s demand for Modi’s statements. He said the Prime Minister is always present in Parliament when not on foreign trips but may not always be in the House.
