Starting August 15, 2025, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will launch a FASTag-based annual pass to make highway travel smoother for private vehicle owners. The pass will cost ₹3,000 and cover either 200 trips or one year of travel on National Highways, whichever comes first. This move is part of the government’s push to reduce delays at toll plazas and ease the burden of frequent toll payments for daily commuters and long-distance travellers.

The new system will apply only to non-commercial four-wheelers such as cars, jeeps, and vans. Commercial vehicles, trucks, or buses will not be eligible. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari made the announcement on the X platform, highlighting that the pass is designed for individual users who frequently travel on national highways and face repeated toll charges within short distances.

A major goal of the pass is to resolve a common complaint: multiple toll plazas located within 60 kilometres of each other. This setup has often caused confusion, disputes, and added costs for drivers. By offering a one-time annual payment, the government hopes to eliminate these issues and provide a simpler, more predictable tolling experience.

Once activated, the pass will allow eligible vehicles to travel without any deductions from their FASTag account until the trip count or time limit is reached. This system builds on the current digital tolling setup, aiming to reduce congestion, cut wait times, and improve the overall efficiency of toll collection on highways across the country.

Who Can Use It

  • Only for private four-wheelers like cars, jeeps, and vans

  • Not valid for commercial or heavy vehicles

What You Get

  • Unlimited highway access up to 200 trips or 12 months

  • No toll charges until the limit is reached

  • Valid across all National Highways in India

Why It Matters

  • Cuts time spent at toll plazas

  • Solves complaints about toll booths located too close together

  • Reduces payment disputes and travel delays

You can activate or renew the pass through:

  • The Rajmarg Yatra App

  • The NHAI and MoRTH official websites

What you’ll need:

  • A valid FASTag account

  • Vehicle registration number

  • Basic verification details.

The government expects millions of private vehicle users to benefit from this pass. It promises to lower travel costs, save time, and offer more convenience for those who frequently use India’s growing network of national highways. The pass is also a step toward building a digital-first, user-friendly toll system that prioritises ease and speed for drivers.
