Ground Report | New Delhi: Jeevanjot Kaur was the candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party from Amritsar East Punjab headquarters. Two great faces of Punjab politics, Navjot Singh Sidhu of Congress and Vikram Singh Majithia of Shiromani Akali Dal have also contested this seat.

Talking to reporters after the historic victory, Jeevanjot Kaur said, “It is a victory for the people of Punjab. My ticket was announced around 3rd December… During door-to-door campaigns, there was a positive indication that Punjab has overcome identity politics.”

According to Jeevanjot Kaur, she has been very active in social work for the last 20-25 years. She had said that she had never thought of joining politics, but since her school days she had such an identity that when she went to the principal’s office, she thought there must be some trouble.

She said that it is not possible for a woman to come here without the support of her family and she continued to receive this support even after marriage.

In 1992 she opened a school in the Sri Hemkunt Education Society and during that time Jeevanjot herself was also studying. According to him, at the same time, she began to teach children in that school.

According to Jeevanjot, she has also directed a project called ‘Ikoshi’. She is also known as the Punjab bookstore woman. She promotes reusable sanitary pads.
