Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah demanded a probe by retired Supreme Court judges into the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in early 1990s. Abdullah, a three-time chief minister, said, “A sincere and honest judge of Supreme Court, retired judge of Supreme Court, a team of judges…let them investigate and come out with their report. It will clear many minds around the globe, among the younger Kashmiri Pandits, that it was not Kashmiri Muslims who threw them out. There are still many Kashmiri Pandits who never left and they are living here.”
Answering questions during a webinar, Abdullah said that he believes that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits and he will support any process to bring them back.
It is noteworthy that after the beginning of militancy in the early 1990s, about 60 thousand Kashmiri families have registered themselves as migrants. Lok Sabha member and National Conference President Abdullah alleged that the then Governor Jagmohan was responsible for the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits who took them out of the valley by falsely promising to return in three months.
The theme of this webinar was “Canceling old orders and imposing new orders one year after deactivating Articles 370 and 35A”. During this time, Abdullah was asked if he would support the massacre Bill which brought an organization of Kashmiri Pandits called Panoon Kashmir and demanded a separate state for the migrants. On this, Abdullah said that he will read the bill first.
The three-time chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said, “Let the retired, hardworking and honest judges or a team of judges of the Supreme Court investigate and let the report come. This will remove many apprehensions of young Kashmiri Pandits and it will be known that they were not driven out by Kashmiri Muslims. There are still many Kashmiri Pandits who never left the valley and are still living there.
The leader of the National Conference referred to many such incidents in which Muslims stood for Kashmiri Pandits from 1947 till now. He said, “Do you believe that we (Kashmiri Pandits) are happy to go?” We believe that Kashmir will not be complete until Hindus return and will not live together again in peace. ”
Abdullah said that he will stick to this ideology of his party, no matter what religion they believe in, they are all equal.
The former chief minister said, “My father never accepted the principle of two nations.” He never believed that Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist and other religions are different. We consider everyone to be children of Adam and Eve. Everyone’s needs are the same and they worked for unity, I will stay on that path till the end and I will continue to work to unite everyone. ”
