OMG, doesn’t he sound like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan?” Another person mentioned: “He has a similar voice to Nusrat, but both Nusrat and Rahat were much more polished qawwals at this age. Nusrat was truly the best!”

Shahzaman has gained popularity even among Indians. The young qawwal is reported to have performed at Anant Ambani’s 28th birthday celebration in Dubai in April.

He has left an indelible mark with his iconic songs, including the timeless “Dulhe Ka Sehra” from the film Dhadkan, which starred Suniel Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty. Maestro Qawwali’s repertoire includes unforgettable tracks like “Dum Mast Qalander Mast” and “Jhule Jhule Laal”. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Nusrat’s nephew, also made a mark in Bollywood until Pakistani artists were banned from working in India in 2016.

Rahat has lent his soulful voice to numerous Bollywood hits including “Sajdaa”, “Naina”, “Main Jahaan Rahoon” and “O Re Piya” among others. His last Bollywood song “Tere Bin” was featured in the film Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan. Rahat has also contributed to Pakistani dramas, recording OSTs and has been a part of multiple seasons of Coke Studio.
