Southwest monsoon to withdraw from several Indian states: IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported favorable conditions for the southwest monsoon’s withdrawal from certain sectors of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

The forecast also anticipates a similar withdrawal from select areas of West Bengal and Odisha within the forthcoming two days. Furthermore, conditions seem conducive for the monsoon to retract from parts of Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, and the remaining portions of the Central Arabian Sea.

A cyclonic circulation lies over Rayalaseema and adjoining South Interior Karnataka, with a trough from the lower levels of this cyclonic circulation continuing to the Comorin area. We expect a fresh Western Disturbance to become active in the Western Himalayan region from the night of 13th October and in the plains of North-West India from 14th October, which will bring changes in the weather.

The IMD has predicted heavy rains in different parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Kerala today, with rainfall estimated to be between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm. Light to moderate rain may occur over Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad during October 13 to 17 and parts of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab during October 14 to 17.

We expect stormy winds to blow at a rate of 30 to 40 km per hour today in different parts of Kerala along with rain and lightning. We also expect rain and thundershowers in isolated parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Yesterday, Agra in Western Uttar Pradesh recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius. Jalgaon in Marathwada recorded a minimum temperature of 17.8 degrees Celsius. We observed rain or thundershowers in many parts of Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura yesterday.
