Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away in Gurugram on Monday. The news of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s death was confirmed through Samajwadi Party’s official Twitter account.

He was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on October 2. On Sunday, Medanta Hospital informed us that Mulayam Singh Yadav’s health remained critical and he was being given life-saving medicines.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his anguish over the veteran politician’s death, saying he was a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav as he hailed his “remarkable personality”. 

PM Modi has written in another tweet – “When we were both Chief Ministers, I had several conversations with Mulayam Singh Yadav ji. These close relations continued and I was always curious to know his thoughts. I am saddened by his death. My condolences to his family and millions of supporters. om Shanti.”

“Received the sad news of the demise of former Chief Minister of UP and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. May almighty rest his soul at his feet and give strength to his family and admirers to bear the loss,” tweeted Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal. 

The country’s President Draupadi Murmu tweeted and wrote – ‘The death of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav is an irreparable loss for the country. The achievements of Mulayam Singh Yadav ji, who came from an ordinary environment, were extraordinary. ‘Dharti Putra’ Mulayam ji was a veteran leader associated with the land. He was respected by people of all parties. My deepest condolences to his family members and supporters!

Became Chief Minister for first time in 1989

Yadav, who won the election for the first time from the Jaswantnagar Assembly of Uttar Pradesh in the year 1967, became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1989. After this, in 1993, he became the Chief Minister of the state for the second time.

In the year 1996, Mulayam Singh Yadav contested the Lok Sabha elections from Mainpuri and was Defense Minister in the United Front government from 1996 to 1998.

After this, he also won the Lok Sabha elections from Sambhal and Kannauj and became the Chief Minister of UP once again in 2003.

In the year 2019, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Mainpuri in which he won.
