In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Forest Resource Management Center (FRMC) and launched the National Transit Pass System at Narwal in Jammu.

The Lieutenant Governor said the new state-of-the-art facility and advances in technology will go a long way toward providing the required protection and management of our forests.

The FRMC was expected to intensify the use of modern technologies such as GIS, remote sensing and digital tools like mobile applications in forest protection and management. The FRMC will also play a key role in digitizing tree boundaries as well as forest management through georeferenced information and mapping.

The Lieutenant Governor advised the department to maximize the use of technology in protecting forests and mitigating climate change by protecting natural resources, which will also support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

J&K UT is the third UT/state to implement the National Transit Pass System in the country. It replaces the manual paper-based transport system with an online transport system, and promotes agro-forestry activities which will in turn help increase farmers’ incomes, the Lieutenant Governor noted.
