On Monday, March 20, lakhs of farmers from different states reached Delhi. Kisan Maha Panchayat Delhi has been organized at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, whose aim is to build pressure on the government to fulfill the promises made by them during the previous farmer’s movement.

According to the United Kisan Morcha, the government has not yet fulfilled the promises made to the farmers on December 9, 2021. The government took back the law but did not fulfilled our additional demands.

What are long pending demands of farmers?

  • The first demand is to withdraw cases against farmers registered during the last Kisan Andolan.
  • To get a legal guarantee on MSP, farmers demand a legal framework on minimum support price. The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha wants the MSP committee formed by the Center to be dissolved.
  • The third demand is that the government should give compensation to the farmers who died during the farmer’s movement.
  • The fourth demand is that whatever debt the farmers have along with the electricity bill should be forgiven.
  • The Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 referred by the Joint Parliamentary Committee should be withdrawn. Farmers say that the government did not talk to the farmers about this bill. Farmers want that they should get free electricity for farming and bills should be waived up to 300 units for domestic use.
  • Apart from this, a pension scheme is being demanded by the farmers.

High Security in Delhi

Security has been tightened in Delhi in view of the Kisan Maha Panchayat. For this, additional 2 thousand security personnel have been deployed.

People of Delhi have been appealed not to use JLN Marg between Delhi Gate to Ajmeri Gate. Due to the gathering of farmers at Ramlila Maidan, there can be a situation of traffic jams in its surrounding areas.
