The deceased Junaid, 35, and Nasir, 28, were residents of Ghatmeeka village in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. This village is close to the Haryana border.

According to Nasir’s brother Mohammad Jabir, “Nasir was a car driver and Junaid had a small shop in the village. Both had gone to visit their relative in the nearby Bhorubas Sikri village that day in a Bolero car. They stayed the night and were returning home on Wednesday, February 15 next day in the morning. According to Ismail, the cousin of the deceased Junaid, “The Bajrang Dal men took Junaid and Nasir and after beating them badly reached the Firozpur-Jhirka police station in Haryana, where the police refused to take Junaid and Nasir, into custody, because they were almost dead and there was no proof of cow killing.”
