A landslide on the outskirts of Shimla city left one woman dead and two others seriously injured on Wednesday, a senior state disaster management official said.
At least four people are feared to have been swept away by a flash flood triggered by a cloudburst in the Shimla Kullu district. After the cloud burst in Chojh village in Challal panchayat around 6 am, four to six people are missing.
Malana and Manikaran in the Kullu district have been cut off from the rest of the state following a downpour and rescue efforts are underway.
In the reported landslide near the Dhalli tunnel in Shimla, one woman was killed and two others, including a man and a woman, were injured.
The victims, said to be migrant workers, were sleeping in a roadside tent when the incident occurred. The injured man was taken to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Some vehicles were also hit by debris, NDTV reported.
At least four people, in addition to livestock, were swept away in Chojh village in Kullu. Rescue teams are stuck midway due to landslides.
About 25 to 30 employees working on the Malana 2 power project, who were trapped in a damaged building due to flash flooding, were evacuated.
A senior State Disaster Management official said at least five head of cattle were also swept away by the flash floods, citing information from the Kullu District Emergency Operations Center.
According to the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area has remained in the areas of Central Gujarat and adjoining areas. The associated cyclonic circulation is extending up to mid-levels and is sloping towards southwest with elevation.
As per IMD’s latest weather forecasts, during the next 5 days, there will be lightning and lightning in Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Heavy rain may occur with thunderstorms.
