Ground Report | New Delhi: Five LeT militants killed; Five terrorists were killed in two separate operations that began on Monday evening in South Kashmir’s Shopian.

Those killed include an extremist who killed a Bihar street street vendor in Srinagar on October 5. Police has given this information.

On receiving information about the presence of extremists in two villages of Tulran and Feripora, a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and paramilitary forces launched this encounter operation.

Three terrorists were killed in the encounter in Tulran and two in Feripora.

“During the search operation in Tulran, as soon as the presence of terrorists was detected, they were repeatedly given an opportunity to surrender, but they started firing and the reason for this was an encounter,” the police said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The three militants have been identified as Danish Hussain Dar of Kapreen Shopian, Yawar Hussain Naikoo of Pahipora and Mukhtar Ahmed Shah of Ganderbal.

Police say they belonged to The Resistance Front (TRF), a faction of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Police said Mukhtar Shah was involved in the murder of Bihar’s Virendra Paswan, who used to run Pani Puri Wali Gali in Srinagar, on October 5. Paswan was shot.

According to the police, two of the four recent cases of ‘targeted murder’ in the Valley have been resolved with Shah’s murder.

He said that on Monday, an militant responsible for the murder of a civilian was also killed in an encounter in Hajin village of Bandipora.

According to the police, “The search operation was stopped due to darkness at Feripora in Shopian and resumed in the early hours. Two terrorists were killed in this encounter.

The terrorists killed in Feripora have been identified as Ubaid Ahmad Dar of Kaparin and Khubib Ahmed Nengru of Baripora. Both were associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

With Shah’s killing, two of the four recent cases of targeted killings in the Valley have been resolved, police said. On Monday, a terrorist responsible for the killing of a civilian was gunned down in an encounter in Hajin village of Bandipora, they said.

Shopian encounter

Two terrorists were killed in the second operation in Pheripora village. “The overnight search operation was also halted at Pheripora Shopian and resumed in the early hours,” police said.

The hiding terrorists were contacted around 10 am and asked to surrender, police said. However, they started firing indiscriminately on the search party, which led to an encounter. “Two terrorists were killed in the ensuing encounter,” police said.
