Sheikh DanishSrinagar, Feb 24 (KNO): As Russia announced military operations in Ukraine, at least 180 Kashmiri students are stuck in Ukraine while as Jammu and Kashmir administration has initiated measures to bring back all the students on war footing basis.J&K Students’ Association National Spokesperson, Nasir Khuehami told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 180 to 200 Kashmiri students studying in Ukraine in Colleges, Universities under professional and non—professional courses, are stuck there at a time when Russian Army has launched a massive military operation there.
“My son is studying at Ukraine and I am worried as I have lost contact with him,” said Aijaz Ahmed, a resident of Hyderpora, Srinagar. He said parents of all the children studying in Ukarine have decided to assemble at press enclave Srinagar to press for the safe return all Kashmiri students.
Officials told KNO that Rajbhawan has started the process to bring back all the students studying at Ukraine on fast track basis. “We are in touch with Ukraine Embassy officials and will ensure all Kashmiri students are safely brought back,” the official said. An Indian girl stranded in Ukraine, identified as Yashwi Garg, claimed on Thursday that “there is no food or water” and that stocks would last only 2-3 days. “There is no food or water. We only have stock for 2-3 days,” Yashwi said. Furthermore, she stated that “there is no support coming from anywhere” and “we are alone (Indian students)”.
The shocking claim was made even as the Indian government stepped up its efforts to help its citizens stranded in Ukraine due to the ongoing war with Russia. The Indian Embassy in Kyiv on Thursday issued an emergency helpline for Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized a military operation in the country.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) said that it is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine. “We are closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation. The focus is on the safety of the Indians, particularly the students. A 24/7 control room is being expanded and put into operation,” government sources said, according to ANI.
