Jagriti Awasthi, topper among female candidates in Civil Services Examination 2020, said that hard work and self-confidence are the key ingredients to achieve success in life and expressed her desire to work for the development of rural areas when she joins the country.
Who is Jagrati Awasthi
Jagriti has completed B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal. Before starting UPSC preparation, she was working in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Government of India owned engineering and manufacturing enterprise. She quit her job to fulfill her dream of becoming an IAS officer.
According to a statement released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Awasthi is the topper among women candidates. Apart from them, Bhopal resident Arth Jain secured 16th rank in the prestigious exam conducted annually to select IAS, IFS, and IPS officers among other civil servants. An excited Awasthi said that her childhood dream has come true.
“After completing B.Tech from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) in Bhopal, I joined Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). I worked there from 2017-2019. But since childhood my one district Had a dream to become a collector and work in social sectors,” she told PTI.

Awasthi said that even after getting a job in her chosen field of engineering, he continued to pursue her dream of becoming a civil servant and started preparing for CSE. “When I was not selected for civil services in the first attempt, I decided to quit (at BHEL) and focus on my preparation for CSE,” she said.
“I quit my job in 2019 and started working hard. Then came the coronavirus pandemic (early 2020), but it gave me some more time to prepare (most public activities came to a halt due to the lockdown). Success was my second attempt,” said Awasthi.
